Working Parties: Roads, Pavements and Footpaths, Funding Sources, Traffic Calming Measures
About me: I was born and brought up in a small cotton town just north of Manchester in Lancashire. After school, I went into the retail grocery trade, starting as a shop boy, eventually managing large supermarkets. From there, into a buying role managing a range of product groups with a total value over £82m.
In 1999, I had a complete change and was appointed Fundraising and Marketing manager for a charity dealing with sight loss in Derby. I retired from this in 2006 and then I was asked to run a help desk in the Eye Clinic in Burton hospital which I did until funding for this important activity was withdrawn.
Over the years my interests have included mountaineering, fencing and brass banding – having played with the Rolls-Royce Derby band for over 35 years.
Due to failing sight over the years, I am now registered as ‘Severely Sight Impaired’ and have recently been in training for a guide dog which I now have. His name is Woody and he is extremely clever, far more clever than me.
In my role as Parish Councillor my main interests will be Disability Rights, problems with access for disabled people and any other way I can help with the Parish.
If you see Woody and myself about the Parish please stop for a chat, I shall enjoy meeting you.
